Joshua my boy, it pisses me off how you make all those points so much better that I ever could.

Love the essay, and for once have absolutely nothing to bitch about. You masterfully covered it all

I will tell you why Harris lost, because the economy for the average person stinks. But all the Biden White House talked about was paying off student loans for those with 6 figure incomes and telling the average person they were too stupid to know how good the economy was. It wasn't for any other reason. When people cant put food on the table and have problem keeping a roof over their head, they will not vote for the party in power. Simple.

I don’t disagree but all the other stuff is the spice so to speak. I mean hell I am a nonpartisan never Trump card carrying member of the Federalist Society and I held my nose and voted for a POS I wouldn’t have lunch with. I was undecided until the very last minute. I found nothing redeeming in the Dems and as time goes on I see less of their agenda that is tolerable to me. For me it’s the Jew hatred I simply won’t tolerate it.

I see your point but all that other stuff matters to people too.

Expand full comment

True, but according to the exit polling the economy was the overwhelming reason they voted for Trump.

Expand full comment

Yes, the economy was a significant part of the reason, but for the large swath of the Democrat party who are *not* struggling to put food on the table or pay their bills, it’s all about everything Joshua described.

Expand full comment

Right, but I was talking about why people voted for Trump, not why they voted democrat.

Yes, “It’s the economy stupid” piece pulled Dems away from voting Democrat, but the extremes to which the Democrat party has gone did as well. I’m speculating that there are many moderate non-economically challenged Dems who flipped to Republican, but the media wants to promote a reasonable reason, not give credence to the extremism and bigotry within the “correct” party. The economic issues we’re experiencing, in part, are an outcome of the shift in national priorities and enabling of extremist ideologies—weak national security and foreign policy— within the Dem party.

One of the funnier bits of the rhetoric was The Guardian wailing that Trump's election opens the door to Israel removing its remaining restraints in Gaza & Lebanon. That was the whole benefit! They can finally finish the job they've never been allowed to finish.

(Apologies but I just can't stop reading The G out of habit)

Please don’t. “Don’t read Soviet press, specially in the morning. It will ruin your appetite for the rest of the day”. That’s a quote from Michail Bulgakov ingenious book “Dog’s heart” which I constantly repeat when come upon the likes of the Guardian, NYT, WaPo…the list goes on. I suggest this book bc Soviet absurdity perfectly explains and reflects our time here. Believe me. I lived it.

There was the economy. And the border. And added to that a sludge of horrible ideas that the Democrats embraced. Like defund the police. So called progressive prosecutors. The word Latinx. Youth gender transition. DEI. ‘Equity’ meaning equal outcomes. Males in female sports. Pronoun posting.

After the election the Democratic Party (my party) must rethink many of its policies as it ponders its future.

To have a chance at victory Democrats should try listening to the concerns of the working class for a change. As a lifelong moderate Democrat I share their distain for many of the insane positions advocated by my party.

Democrat politicians defy biology by believing that men can actually become women and belong in women’s sports, rest rooms, locker rooms and prisons and that children should be mutilated in pursuit of the impossible.

They believe borders should be open to millions of illegals which undermines workers’ wages and the affordability of housing when we can’t house our own citizens.

They discriminate against whites, Asians and men in a vain effort to counter past discrimination against others and undermine our economy by abandoning merit selection of students and employees.

Democratic mayors allow homelessness to destroy our beautiful cities because they won't say no to destructive behavior. No you can’t camp in this city. No you can’t shit in our streets No you can’t shoot up and leave your used needles everywhere. Many of our prosecutors will not take action against shoplifting unless a $1000 of goods are stolen leading to gangs destroying retail stores. They release criminals without bond to rob and murder again.

The average voter knows this is happening and outright reject our party. Enough.

Great point about the homeless opioid crisis and attendant crime. Not sure about the US but here in Canada it's oozed out of the cities and especially in BC is hitting EVERY community, even the wealthier suburbs and rural areas. People are rightly freaking out about it. People who would normally vote NDP or Liberal (our leftie parties) are polling all-in for the Conservatives in the next election.

Please refrain from painting this election as areferendum on Jews and Israel, it's the flip side of the same lie being deployed by k*pos like Beinart in the NYT.

Trump won all seven swing states. Even if Shapiro had been on the Harris ticket, it would not have changed the outcome of the election.

Americans just don't care that much about Israel. To the extent they care, it's because Democrats pandered to the jihadi supporters, allowing masked keffiyeh-wearing psychopaths to riot and attack Jews because "social justice". Normal Americans are disgusted by the double standards and don't want to see their prized universities turned into hate marches.

The only info we can glean from the 2024 election was a referendum soundly rejecting Biden/Harris's last four years of policies. Just look at the -10M drop in votes for Harris vs. Biden 2020. Everyone has their own pet explanations for the flop, which conveniently always reflect the explainer’s own grievances.

The Democrats are about to undergo an intraparty war for control between Liberals and Progressives. The outcome will determine the direction of the party going forward. We need to support Jews and Jewish allies within the Democratic party to fight for liberal values -- which are good for America and incidentally also good for Israel.

The Democrats still don't get it and are continuing to name call Trump and his voters. Biden makes a speech and says the US economy is the best in the world. That doesn't say much for the world's economy, does it? Telling Americans that while every expense has been increased from insurance of all kinds to gasoline, food, clothing, and any extras that folks used to enjoy. I believe, Josh Shapiro, who is from my state of Pennsylvana, didn't want to compromise his support of Israel and chose not to run. He has his sights on his future and bigger plans. We will never get the truth from the Democrats. I believe if the Pravda news media hadn't run defensive for Harris, trying to portray her as a competent candidate while constantly name calling, Trump's numbers would have been even larger. It was obvious to me that if you have to name call another candidate only, you have nothing worthwhile to say about the news media's chosen candidate. After Trump won, I read that Qatar asked all Hamas upper echelon to leave their country. They were no longer hosting them. Hmm....wonder why? The Dems are blaming any ridiculous reason they can conjure. Karine Jean-Pierre said it was because of the Pandemic. Talk about pulling at straws. What sweet irony that Biden and Harris were so concerned about Michigan and Trump took it. Until the Democrats look into their own mirror, they will continue to lose more and more voters.

Very well stated, and you can add Jews to the list of population groups being discriminated against and who are the one group being outright boycotted and blacklisted

The majority of US Jews still voted for Harris - in California that was 71% of Jews - & - even in France the TDS is rampant & if you try to point out that Trump wants global peace & for people “to stop” killing each other - apparently that’s fascist & when I pointed out that he wasn’t racist & even gave Jesse Jackson free office space to run his campaign in the 90s - he’s a fascist & just trying to point out that his comments about Charlottesville have been edited to exclude him condemning the neo-Nazis - he’s fascist & I was informed “We Jews” don’t support fascists! When you refuse to acknowledge that law fare against Israel is being committed to diminish its rights as a country or that it’s irrelevant that Amal Clooneys uncle is a Lebanese Muslim arms dealer or that they only speak about right wing violence & completely ignore the violence coming from the left - I’m left wondering who’re the real fascists? When Jews become the persecutors of objectivity & facts then we have a problem. If you can condone the overt antisemitism of the Left amongst whom there are many young Jews we have an even bigger problem. When children are educated to believe that words are violence but real violence is an act of compassion - you’re indoctrinating a generation of children to commit Genocide hence 7/10 is but a precursor of what could happen. The cultural revolution as described in Jung Chang’s book Wild Swans clearly lays it out. Indoctrinate the children who then spy on their parents who then need to be sent to re education camps - must not be ignored.

Jewish communities in the West have walked down the same blind alley the Black community has in the US - reflexive support for the left long after it has ceased serving one's own welfare. The most obvious threat is the changing voter demographics from mass immigration from the ME. The emerging "MidWest Muslim elector complex" is a worry. This is a rod they have sadly whittled for their own backs - as is the chipping away at free speech.

The lunacy of it all is that the Jews have morphed into being their own worst enemy & persecutor. The Far Left Secular Jews deny the validity of all religions bar the one that threatens them & Judeo Christian values the most in their quest to be supplanted by Sharia Law & seem oblivious in the irony of celebrating the Hijab whilst ignoring the plight Iranian of women & what the Yazidis were subjected to. Sexual slavery is still acceptable & the open air slave markets are there for all to see!!!!!

This reminds me of something...

Loving thy enemy (a bit too much). How ironic that it is explicitly the anti-religion secularists who have developed a new version of the love-thy-enemy dictum - but it is their secular version that is actually producing a true threat of civilizational collapse when the old religious version produced harmony.

In 1985 I came to the conclusion that be it the Sacred or the Secular they’re belief systems which are used to control the people. However, what’s interesting about the Story of Exodus is that the Jews were asked if they were prepared to agree to be ruled by laws through consent vs being governed by laws that are imposed from above ie: Pharaohs, Emperors, Kings & Queens. It was very much a triangle as symbolised by the Pyramids vs the Tree of Life & it’s roots as symbolised by the menorah. Which is why we seem to be in a period of regression. When the working man 100 years ago was begrudgingly given the vote the Landed Gentry believed that the working man wasn’t intelligent enough to know how or for who to vote for. Today, the new elites are the grandchildren & the great grandchildren who’ve replaced the Landed Gentry by the Graduates who now question if the working person has the intellectual capacity to understand not only the value of their vote but for whom & for what they should be voting for.

Blaming the gun for shooting yourself in the foot? If you are a Democrat, of course, you DO blame the gun. Blame someone else for loading the gun. Blame someone else for placing that gun in your hand. Blame someone else for pulling the trigger. Much easier on the soul than looking in the mirror. Unfortunately, you still have that bleeding hole in your foot that certainly will not heal itself.

Good essay and discussion of the points, though it was difficult for me to get past the "accept these things as true" part about Trump. I don't put much stock in exit polls. Who participates in them? Not folk like me. What counts is how people actually vote, not what they say either before or after they have voted. We know how groups vote by looking at result tallies from voting locations by town, county, state, and region. That is why I find it telling that counties and polling locations where Jews reside more heavily tended to come out for Trump in greater numbers than predicted. It might be true for non Jews that the economy and immigration were top issues for them, but for Jews Israel and anti-semitism were among the top issues, if not THE top issue.

An outstanding analysis of this monumental election Joshua. Unfortunately, I have to tell all my friends (Democrats) when they ask, how are you doing? The American people have spoken. Trump won the popular vote. The country will survive, it always has…your friend, the History teacher. Do you think they know I voted for Trump?

Excellent points. Ironically, because of the illiberal activities of the dems, many true liberals voted republican. Eventually they'll figure that out.
