A few years ago, I learned that the approach of being “smart, not right” usually yields the best results. Israel would be wise to act accordingly as it mulls a response to last night's Iranian attack.
Very insightful, Josh. Sure, why should Israel spend her resources attacking Iran if, after, this test attack (as you put it), proves relatively minor, Iran poses no immediate threat? Yes, Israel must finish the goal of eliminating Hamas, securing Gaza and Judea/Samaria and defeating Hezbollah. That is enough for Israel to deal with.
I agree that this is a time for strategic reaction. The world has watched as the attack on Israel lumbered on, knowing full well that Iran is capable of inflicting much worse destruction. Why was this done? To show force, save face, yet not to inflict the most destruction possible. Thank God for this and let's move forward. Get the hostages home.
I’m sure that Israel will keep its eye on the prize of finishing its mission in Gaza. I hope Israel can form an alliance with its Middle East “allies” and together deal with Iran through diplomacy and or impose possible sanctions on Iran from this “new” Israel/Middle East coalition.
Interesting commentary. It seems to me Iran's actions here enabled it to test Israel's defences; test Israel's allies ability & willingness to defend Israel; and to respond to the attack they claimed was on their consulate in Syria in a way designed to minimise the risk of escalating the conflict to a point where a full blown war breaks out, whilst demonstrating the ability to reach Israel if they actually want to. An additional effect, if not an aim, of the action was seeing how pro-Palestinian groups in Western countries react to those countries stepping in to defend Israel when there are regular marches against Israel's war on Hamas taking place in major cities across the US and Europe.
I agree Israel needs to think strategically and carefully about how best to respond to this. It would be a mistake to think Iran is unable to mount a more effective attack, potentially by surprise, simply because they were careful not to do something that escalates the situation radically at this point in time.
I completely agree! The actions of Iran and the strength of the attack, show that they want a war. It is entirely right that Israel takes it time and develops the coalition that it has.
The act of aggression of a Nation against another Nation is an act of war regardless if the attack was "Halfhearted or via feeble weapon systems". Noone wants all-out war, but to downplay the willful military aggression and calls for the destruction of a neighbor State would be regrettable and unforgivable.
Long-term I agree. I have no doubt Israel’s security establishment is already working on a plan to covertly take care of the Iranian regime, hopefully together with regional partners.
Do you think The West and Israel and Europe is going to wait for Iran to get the Nuclear weapons? Because when Iran gets them, they will use them, probably against Europe and Israel first.

Agreed, Hope and Prayers for the leaders of Israel's and their regional partners.
Very, very good points.
I think the attacks were more a test of abilities and alliances. Part of a wider strategic plan than tit for tat balancing.
