Generally, journalistic standards have been in significant, exponential decline. Dishonesty about coverage of the Israel-Hamas-Hezbollah war shows how bad it has become.
I tell myself that even if the truth were reported, many people would find a way to think the worst of Israel and Jews. There is nothing we can do to change that. We can only win, and win totally, and stop caring about what anyone thinks.
we MUST win, obviously. but even if we stop caring, they are poisoning our life, not just with words, but with physical violence. and yes, it will never change.
It is true. It may not. We are the perennial scapegoat. BUT I will say this -- we have learned to pick ourselves up after the worst treatment and go forward and figure out the next right thing to do, and we become once again productive and a light unto the nations, actually (and I'm an atheist). And maybe that's why they hate us. Reflecting on this has made me far less "liberal" regarding the "underprivileged." For example, many black people have made great strides. Still, there are those living in inner city ghettos. Where are their leaders speaking out against drugs and out of wedlock child birth, responsibility, education, etc? I heard someone say re the black community, "Live like Asians for two generations, and then talk to me." (Whoever it was, may as well have said "Live like Jews."). So now I think, let's stop making people into perpetual victims; show faith in their human abilities, and let them get their acts together. (Sorry for rant).
Was it Dara Horn that said the world only loves dead Jews? I have little stomach for today's news ... and again I will re-quote Jimmy Hoffa "you gotta do, whatcha gotta do" .... the world cares little (unless it is something "they" need). Apparently Israel is all along (although recent events in the U.S. could imply the "other". Anyone interested in learning about J.D. Vance, read "Hillbilly Elegy". I read it several years ago; very interesting and illuminates the man.
I am not sure who was it that said it first, but I have somehow known it from a very early age: if you are not a dead Jew, at least be a leftist (woke today). You have to see it, to believe it: on the French TV you have a new spot now, where actors play a scared Jewish family at home on a Sabbath, and their guests neighbours, Arabs and blacks, trying to calm them down...
I have been a left leaning liberal all my life but feel betrayed and abandoned. Cannot believe what is going on and fail to understand why ... but I know this, I will not listen to any words spoken but will watch the "acts" perpetrated and that will be how I vote.
The most important excerpt in 20+ years: "News media standards have been in decline for years. Journalistic norms have given way to activist narratives. When reporters and outlets have a clear bias, ... they report what serves their narrative rather than what is true.
Most frustrating is that this, in itself, is easily fixable. It just requires a return to long-established journalist norms and best practice. Standing in the way is a corrupt post-modernist culture — which has also wrecked academia, comedy, and literature — that allows this nonsense to pass as news, facts, and truth".
Fixing that is a far harder problem." (...) I removed a few words concerning our specific concern, so that the excerpt can be seen in general concern. If I fwd - most people I'm in online/social media communication.... will not read anything concerning Eretz Yisrael aka Israel. Around 8 or so years ago I began an experiment to post positive news about Israel particularly its science, medicine, environmental, arts etc etc etc and its outstanding individuals and its vibrant archeological discoveries which are mind boggling. Almost no one ever responded. Kapish?:) "Houston we've got a problem".
Just after reading your article I decided to read a little on the BBC (I like to read propaganda), and true to form this is the quote from the article about Lebanon.
Defence Minister Yoav Gallant chimed in, saying the country would be returned “to the stone age”.
And the actual quote from Yoav Gallant.
“We don’t want to get into a war, because it’s not good for Israel,” Mr Gallant said. “We have the ability to take Lebanon back to the Stone Age, but we don’t want to do it.”
It seems so much of the legacy media goes much further in manipulating the truth, to the point of actually completely changing the meaning of a quote. How this even passes as journalism I have no idea.
Thanks for your insight and writing. I remember reading about Blinkin and his comments on the demise of his friend's son. When I heard the real story about the two "reporters" in the car and the drone nearby being operated by one of the occupants of the car, all I could think of was Blinkin is such an idiot and really doesn't know what is happening. He's just sorry that that happened. Aw gee. What a bleeding heart! Hamas really has us (US) in their pocket.
it's so unbearable to live surrounded by big lies about Israel. I don't have the energy left to tell people that they know NOTHING about the facts.

The mainstream media in Gaza prints zero without the permission of Hamas

Very useful insight, thanks. Makes sense of all the hogwash we're being sold through mainstream outlets.
